Freedom Was Never Meant to Be a Solo Journey
Jul 13, 2026One idea kept returning to me after this week's conversation with Keith Renninson. We often celebrate independence, yet many of the greatest moments of freedom come because someone chose to walk beside us.
That may sound like a contradiction, especially in a culture that admires self-made success. We applaud the person who figures everything out alone, solves every problem, and never asks for help. Yet when we look back at the people who have shaped our own lives, isn’t the story usually very different?
Most of us are where we are today because someone believed in us before we fully believed in ourselves. Someone offered encouragement at the right moment, shared a different perspective, opened a door, or simply listened when life became complicated.
Those moments rarely make the headlines, yet they often become the turning points that change everything.
Keith's T.R.I.P. philosophy: Tenacity, Resilience, Imagination, and Purpose, reminded me that none of those qualities develops in complete isolation. We certainly grow through challenges, but we also grow through conversations, relationships, and people who help us, or just with us, to see possibilities we might have missed on our own.
That is one reason Achieving Unity continues to resonate with me. Unity is not about everyone thinking alike or agreeing on every decision. It is about creating an environment where people feel comfortable contributing their ideas, asking honest questions, and helping one another move forward.
When people feel valued and heard, trust begins to replace uncertainty. Collaboration becomes more natural. Progress becomes more sustainable.
It also changes the way we experience stress.
Many of the pressures we carry are real, but they often become heavier when we convince ourselves we have to carry them alone.
Sometimes the most practical step toward reducing stress is not finding another solution. It is finding another conversation.
As I reflected on this week's podcast, I found myself thinking about leadership a little differently. Perhaps leadership is less about proving our strength and more about creating the kind of relationships where strength can be shared. That perspective benefits families, friendships, workplaces, and communities because people thrive where they know they matter.
As you move through the coming week, consider one relationship that could become stronger with a simple conversation. It might be someone you need to thank, someone whose perspective you have been missing, or someone who simply needs to know they are valued. Small moments of connection often become the foundation for meaningful change.
Thank you for continuing this journey with me as we pursue Achieving Unity by Encouraging, Inspiring, and Including others. Every conversation is another step toward building better businesses, better relationships, and a better world, One Reality at a Time™.
A heartfelt thank you to Keith Renninson for joining this week's Achieving Unity Leadership System™ Podcast and sharing his T.R.I.P. philosophy: Tenacity, Resilience, Imagination, and Purpose. Keith reminded us that freedom becomes more meaningful when we have people who encourage us to keep growing.
Next Wednesday, July 15, we will continue our conversation during Minority Mental Health Awareness Month as we explore the important connection between mental well-being, leadership, communication, and belonging with a special guest to be announced soon. I hope you will join us.
Tomorrow, our AULS Foundations™ article series continues with Developing a Supportive Environment, where we will explore a simple leadership principle that influences every successful team: People thrive where they feel valued and heard. Sometimes the greatest change begins when one person decides to make another person feel seen.
This Week's Unity Takeaway: Freedom grows stronger when we stop proving we can do life alone and start building lives worth sharing together.
If this week's reflection resonated with you, your spouse, your team or your enterprise, I would enjoy continuing the conversation. Whether through coaching, consulting, keynote speaking, training, or a workshop, let's keep creating stronger leaders and better solutions, One Reality at a Time™.
