We Were Never Meant to Walk Alone

Aug 10, 2026

This week, one thought keeps finding its way back into my conversations.

No matter how capable we become, how much experience we gain, or how confident we appear, none of us were meant to face life's journey alone.

At first, that may seem like an obvious statement. Yet the more we reflect on this week's conversations, the more I realized how often we convince ourselves otherwise. Too many times, we tell ourselves that asking for help could be a sign of weakness, that good leaders always have the answers, or that if we simply work a little harder, we can solve every problem ourselves.

Many of us have discovered that reality has a different lesson to teach. Some of our greatest breakthroughs begin the moment we invite someone else into the conversation. Sometimes, just their presence can help us think more clearly.

That realization first surfaced during last Friday's AULS Foundations™ discussion about communication and respect. We explored the idea that every person brings a unique perspective; one that is shaped by their experiences, knowledge, and journey. Respect is much more than being polite. It is recognizing that someone else's perspective may help us see something we may never discover on our own.

When people feel respected, they become more willing to contribute. They share ideas more openly. They ask better questions. They help us create solutions that no one person could have developed alone.

Perhaps that is why Respect opens minds; Unity opens possibilities. As we thought about that over the past weekend, the thought naturally rolled into Monday's conversation about Write It Down™.

Have you ever walked away from a meeting believing everyone understood what had been decided, only to discover later that each person left with a different understanding? I think we have all experienced that at one time or another.

Writing something down is not about creating more paperwork. It is about creating clarity, opening our thoughts. It transforms good conversations into shared commitments and helps everyone move forward with the same understanding.

  • Relationships grow stronger when expectations become clearer.
  • Teams become stronger when commitments become visible.
  • Trust grows when people know they can depend on one another.

Tuesday's conversation also added another important piece to the picture:

The strongest leaders do not stand alone

For many years, leadership was often described as being the person with the answers. Today, I believe leadership is better measured by the willingness to build relationships where people feel safe asking questions, sharing ideas, and supporting one another.

Strength is not found in carrying every burden ourselves; that becomes stress, not strength! Strength is found in knowing when to lean on others and in being willing to stand beside someone who needs our support.

That idea became especially meaningful during this week's podcast with Maricela Campa.

As we discussed moving from awareness to accompaniment, I found myself thinking about how often people simply want to know they have not been forgotten. They may not be looking for someone to solve every problem. They may simply need someone willing to listen, encourage, and walk beside them through whatever they are facing.

  • Sometimes accompaniment is more powerful than advice.
  • Sometimes being present is more valuable than having the perfect answer.
  • Sometimes people remember how we made them feel long after they forget the words we spoke.

What are your thoughts? Have you experienced a time when someone's presence helped you more than their solution? I know I have.

Looking back across the week and each of the daily posts, I realized every conversation pointed toward the same truth.

  • Leadership is not built by standing above people.
  • It is built by standing beside them.

Whether we are communicating with respect, documenting commitments, building stronger support systems, or accompanying someone through a difficult season, we are doing the same thing. We are helping people know they are seen, valued, and supported. That may be one of the greatest gifts we can ever give another person.

As August continues, many families are preparing for new routines, new school years, new responsibilities, and new opportunities. Change often arrives quietly before it becomes obvious.

This season reminds us that growth rarely happens all at once. It happens through ordinary conversations, daily encouragement, and small acts of support that help people move forward with greater confidence.

Tomorrow, our Friday AULS Foundations™ series concludes with Unity in Action: Building Stronger Families, Friendships, Teams and Communities. We will reflect on The Power of Unity and the collective strength that emerges when people choose to work together with trust, respect, and a shared purpose.

After spending this week reflecting on communication, documentation, support, and accompaniment, I believe tomorrow's principle says it beautifully:

Together we accomplish what no one can achieve alone.

As we continue our journey together, I hope you finish this week's conversation encouraged by one simple truth. Every person you encourage, every relationship you strengthen, every conversation you begin, and every act of support you offer helps create a better tomorrow for someone else. Those moments may never make headlines, but they often become the moments people remember for the rest of their lives.

Thank you to Maricela Campa for sharing her heart, wisdom, and passion for helping individuals, families, and teams feel seen, supported, and connected. Her reminder that accompaniment often begins with simply being present is one that I hope stays with all of us.

This week, another thought stays with me after reading something my friend, Mama Mindy Green, MSW, shared about this season of the year. August often feels like two seasons meeting at once. Summer hasn't quite ended, yet many families are already preparing for a new school year, new routines, and new responsibilities.

Those transitions can remind us that change is rarely one dramatic event. More often, it happens through small conversations, quiet encouragement, and the steady support we give one another along the way. Whether we are helping a child prepare for school, supporting a friend through uncertainty, or encouraging a teammate facing a new challenge, these ordinary moments often become the ones people remember most.

Also this week, something encouraging is happening beyond our own conversations. In just two days, Mila Johansen celebrates the release of her new book, The Cinderella Monologues 4th Edition, sharing a journey that reminds us that what once seemed impossible can become possible through perseverance, hope, and the willingness to keep moving forward.

Stories like Mila's encourage us because they remind us that today's challenges do not have to become tomorrow's limitations. Every meaningful journey begins with one courageous step, followed by another. You are invited to The Cinderella Monologues 4th Edition Book Launch  Saturday, August 8 at 11:30 am PT/2:30 pm ET. The Zoom link will be provided in the comments.

Next Wednesday, August 12, I look forward to welcoming Dr. Thaint Naing as we continue National Wellness Month with a fascinating conversation about stem cell therapy, regenerative medicine, and preparing the next generation for the remarkable possibilities that lie ahead. As medicine and technology continue to advance, so do our opportunities to improve health, extend quality of life, and better prepare future generations.

Tomorrow, August 7, I hope you will join me for our concluding AULS Foundations™ lesson, The Power of Unity, as we reflect on how collective strength transforms families, friendships, teams, organizations, and communities.

One of the greatest privileges of my work is walking beside leaders, teams, and organizations as they navigate change, strengthen relationships, and discover practical solutions to complex challenges. If I can help you or your organization through coaching, consulting, keynote speaking, training, or workshops, I would be honored to continue the conversation with you.

This Week's Unity Takeaway

Lasting success is rarely built alone. It grows through relationships where people feel seen, supported, respected, and encouraged to move forward together.

Knowledge creates possibilities. Action creates results. Choose one conversation, take one step, and keep Creating Solutions One Reality at a Time™.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. What part of this week's conversation resonated most with you?
