Building Safe Futures: Creating Spaces Where Everyone Feels Safe

Don’t we all deserve to live in communities where we feel safe—safe from violence at home, at work, and in our neighborhoods? But too many people face threats to their safety every day.

That is why Building Safe Futures was founded, a new organization dedicated to bringing awareness, offering training, and providing tools to deploy and resources to use as we tackle violence and build a world where everyone can thrive.

Think about it: domestic abuse in all its forms, including the often-unseen wounds of mental and emotional abuse, is shattering families, workplace aggression is creating fear and stress, and commUNITY violence is leaving neighborhoods scarred. These are not just headlines; they are real problems affecting real people. And we believe we can do something about it.

Building Safe Futures takes a three-pronged approach: we educate, support, and advocate. We want to give people the tools they need to understand violence, offer help to those who need it, and push for changes that make our communities safer for everyone.

What We're Up Against:

  • Domestic Violence (DV) AKA Intimate Partner Violence (IPV): This is not just about physical abuse. It is about power and control, whether it is through emotional manipulation, financial abuse, or physical harm. It affects people of all backgrounds, rippling outwards and hurting families and communities.
  • Workplace Violence: No one should feel unsafe at work. Whether it is physical attacks, threats, or a hostile environment, workplace violence creates stress and fear and can even lead to tragedy.
  • CommUNITY Violence: From shootings to assaults, violence in our neighborhoods destroys the sense of security we all deserve. It leaves lasting scars on individuals and communities.

Our Plan of Action:

Building Safe Futures is committed to making a real difference. Here is how:

  • Education: We will offer workshops and programs to help people understand the different forms of violence, recognize the warning signs, and learn how to prevent it. Knowledge is power, and we want to empower individuals and communities to take action.
  • Support (Coaching & Connections): We offer individual and group coaching to support our members and guests. We also connect people with vital commUNITY resources, including partnering with legal organizations, counseling services, and shelters. We want to ensure that no one feels alone in their journey.
  • Advocacy: We will collaborate with local leaders and lawmakers to push for policies that protect people and prevent violence. We will be a voice for change, working to address the root causes of violence and build a more just and equitable society.

Our Programs:

  • Domestic Violence Support Program: This four-week program will guide individuals and families through the complexities of domestic abuse, offering practical tools for healing, safety planning and building a brighter future.
  • Workplace Violence Prevention Training: We help businesses create safer workplaces by developing Workplace Violence Prevention Plans and providing training on detection, prevention, mitigation, response and recovery. We use industry standards to identify risks and help develop effective strategies.
  • CommUNITY Violence Prevention Initiatives: We will partner with local groups to create programs that address the specific needs of our communities, focusing on prevention and positive change.

Our Goals for the Next Year:

We are not just talking about change; we are making it happen. Before the end of 2025, we aim to:

  • Launch our Domestic Violence Support Program and help at least 50 families.
  • Train at least 10 businesses in workplace violence prevention.
  • Team up with five commUNITY organizations to launch local violence prevention programs.
  • Advocate for at least two new strategies that improve commUNITY safety, like emphasizing commUNITY well-being over politics, focusing on data and outcomes, using inclusive language and other strategies as we help implement known successes.
  • Spread the word about Building Safe Futures and get more people involved in our mission.
